Artist Bio

Seattle-based interdisciplinary process-based artist, Ren (수연) (they/she) draws from multiple mediums to explore tension, nature, tactility, trauma/memory, and sound. Their current mediums are within textiles, photography, and printmaking. She has an MFA in Painting + Drawing at the University of Washington and a dual-degree BA in Studio Art and Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. Since graduating from UW, Ren has focused on collaboration through working in art-adjacent spaces in addition to developing her work and writing post-grad school. They are currently an Artist in Residence at Passable Arts until Spring 2026, a year long residency in the art-tech space. They have shown work post-grad school in METHOD Gallery, The Fishbowl, Bumbershoot 2024, and the Jacob Lawrence Gallery. They own a company called Fox & Forage Studios, LLC, that oversees their other creative and design-oriented interests.

Her practice is rooted in a methodical, cathartic process that incorporates an ebb and flow of physical and metaphorical tension. The textures in her interdisciplinary work come from an obsession with line, color, and form, drawing from imagery of wet or unfurling moth/butterfly wings and undulating sea creatures. She is currently weaving, writing, photographing, and spinning.
